Amazing experience out to Heart Reef! The crew was exceptional. Food provided was way nicer than expected. Lots of extras you can pay for but to be expected on a trip like this. Dont fall into the trap of rushing to get in the water straight away, there's plenty of equipment and time out there on the pontoon! Our kids did an intro dive and thoroughly enjoyed it! Highly recommended all round!
Excellent day spent snorkeling on the great barrier reef. Staff were very friendly and full of info. Boat was very comfortable and food was very nice. We were lucky to have good weather on the day and saw loads of beautiful fish and coral.
Re Great Barrier Reef trip. They go out to a platform where 100 people a day snorkel from. Thus I feel the reef here is not in the greatest shape. When you go on the glass bottom boat away from the snorkel area you see a reef in better condition, but you can’t snorkel it. This is probably the best way to keep the rest of this amazing reef safe by only degrading one area, and it does illustrate what we humans do to our planet. But I would watch a David Attenborough program rather than go here.
We booked the half-day Whitehaven Beach tour with this company. You need to be at their port terminal early in the morning … between 6:30 and 7:00. Luckily the cafe there serves reasonable coffee. This company has a variety of boats and some are more comfortable than others. The trip out to Whitehaven is a little long because you go via Daydream Island and quite often the airport at Hamilton Island as well as Hamilton Island Marina. When you get to Whitehaven , you are taken out to the sand on a little barge with a ramp. There might be three or four trips back and forward depending on how many people are on the boat. The process can take up to 20 minutes. Look for the huge fish under the boat while you’re waiting to get on the barge. The people working for the company were polite. The snack bar is basic. Bring your own food along unless you want chips, Coca-Cola and I believe there were some varieties of beer. Whitehaven Beach has facilities and plenty of places to sit either in the sun or under the shade of the fringing vegetation. You can book a cabana but they are expensive . There are also quite a few trestle tables in the shade. My partner ran up to the lookout and back in 20 minutes. The walk is supposed to take around 45 minutes. Not bad considering he’s in his 70s. 👏🏼 You have around two hours at the beach and the water is beautiful. The company will ask you to wear stinger suits. I thought this was a little excessive because you don’t have to on Hamilton Island, if you’re swimming at their beach. I guess the company is just covering itself against possible litigation. Stinger suits are provided in a variety of sizes. They only ask you to bring them back rinsed and not full of sand. The trip back is long because you stop at the same islands. You really can’t complain about the view on the way. We returned around 2:20 pm. Quite a long “half day”.
